Four Way Essay Contest

The C-U Sunrise Rotary Club of Champaign invites all 6TH GRADE students to participate in a Four-Way Tests Essay Contest.

The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do is as follows:

1. Is it the truth?

2. Is it fair to all concerned?

3. Will it build goodwill and better freiendships?

4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned.


The topic for the essay contest is "How I can apply the four way Test in my life."


Essays are to be 250-300 words.
March 19th is the deadline.
First place cash prize $100, second place $50.
Cover sheets are on the writing wall outside room 1704 or in room 2704.

Money Smart Kid Essay Contest

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and partner organizations present the
Money Smart Kid Essay Contest for students in grades 5-8.

The winner will be awarded a Bright Star Scholarship for $2,000
and the runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship sponsored by U of I Employees
Credit Union.

The 2010 question is as follows;
What is a career you think you may be interested in pursuing? What are the costs and benefits of this choice?
How would you prepare financially and educationally now, in order to achieve your career goals later?

Deadline for entries is March 31st.

Applications available on the writing board outside room 1714 or in room 2704.

Blue Pencil Online

The Blue Pencil is a student-run electronic journal seeking to publish the best literary work by young writers between ages 12-18 around the globe.

They are currently accepting submissions to four features: "Pencil Shavings" (experiments with the single sentence);. "Out Loud!" (audio
recordings of vocal performances of literary works) as well as poetry, short stories, and essays.

National Day of Writing

Students and staff, Oct 20th, 2009 - is the National Day of Writing sponsored by the National Council of the Teachers of English. It is a celebration and a recognition of the importance good writing plays in all of our lives. Ask your English teacher, or Dr. Rummenie, about how you can post your writing on our own "Urbana Middle School Writes!" website. The website is officially open today, and will continue accepting submissions through the end of the school year.

So post some of your best writing, it may be read by millions!
