COURSE OVERVIEW
This one-year course covers the same material as the first semester of first-year Spanish at the high school. Upon successful completion of this course, your student may elect to continue with 8th grade Spanish next year.
In 7th grade we will cover material from the textbook, ¡Exprésate! 1A. We will begin learning how to describe and discuss people, objects, and activities in the school environment. Other topics covered this year include clothing, colors, restaurant, food, family structure, and a variety of famous Hispanic individuals and traditions. We will use these topics as a setting to learn and practice the language, with a focus on reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students are expected to show improvement in all four areas, with competency as the goal.
REQUIREMENTS
Students must bring a pencil/pen, their textbook, a Spanish-only folder or binder section, and writing paper to class daily. In addition to class participation, students are expected to complete written work, which will be assigned regularly from the book and/or worksheets. Daily practice outside of class time is also highly encouraged. Studies show that just 10 minutes a day of review and practice on a regular basis is more effective to learning a foreign language than "cramming" sessions the day before a test.
