Welcome to the 7th Grade French Homework Blog.

My name is Madame Thiel and I can be reached via e-mail at bthiel@usd116.org

This class is equivalent to the first semester of high school French.

During this yearlong class we will learn to use French to:

-Understand classroom instructions

-Greet someone and ask how s/he is
-Introduce ourselves and spell our names

-Talk about our friends and family

-Talk about our homes and school

-Talk about clothing and activities

-Ask or tell the time and date of an event

-Ask prices and understand the answer
-Understand recipes and menus

-Politely order food and drink

-Tell our likes and dislikes

-Describe people and things

We will also learn a bit about French-speaking cultures. Such as:
- Where in the world is French widely spoken
- Where the country of France is located and the approximate locations of its major cities, rivers, and mountains
- The names of some regions of France and what unique history, foods, music, celebrations and customs they have

- What the French school system is like
- The names and contributions of some famous French-speaking people
- Some typical foods, drinks, and cooking methods
- Some of the ways the French language has influenced English

Materials:

Students will be given a teacher created workbook and dictionary to facilitate their practice. Both workbooks should be brought to class every day. They may also be loaned a textbook [Glencoe’s Bon Voyage! 1A].


Grades will be calculated as follows

40% Practice (class participation and homework)

60% Assessments (tests, quizzes, projects)
