    Welcome Back!

Essential Question: What happened to Russia during World War One?

Agenda: We begin class by looking at Langston Hughes's "Harlem," where the final line asks, "or does it explode?". Hughes seems to suggest that a festering problem like social injustice can lead to revolution. This leads us to read a short play about the Russian Revolution of 1917, helping to understand terms like Bolshevik, communist, revolution, corruption and the general causes of the 1917 Russian Revolution and the subsequent Red Scares in the U.S.
